What we do know as a fact is that the Luftwaffe received its first PPK for evaluation purposes in October 1941 and its serial number was 270240 K. German archives reveal that the Luftwaffe received a total of 55,000 ‘7.65mm pistols’, which figure includes Walther PP and PPK, Mauser 1934 and HSc and Sauer 38H. These figures include PPK pistols issued to the Luftwaffe, which received just a small percentage of those accepted by the Waffenamt. The colour of the grips started changing in the third variation, as they went from brown to grey and finally black.
